Are you familiar with James Bond movies? Perhaps you have even recognized which Casino game the hero prefers – in that case you will probably know something about the Baccarat rules. In the Casinos high-rollers and the very rich people are attracted to the Baccarat tables because of its congenial atmosphere and speciality of style.
Baccarat is similar to Blackjack – you need to draw cards in order to approach a certain total. The optimal value is 9 although the word Baccarat is Italian for “0”. Unlike Blackjack, you can not overstep the limit in this game because there are no totals which are considered to be “too high”. Aces are worth 1, face-cards as well as 10 have no value, and the remaining cards are counted at face value. If you have a double-digit number, you count only the last digit. So, for example if you have the 7 and 5 you would have 12, but you actually count only the 2. If you have a hand with the cards 10 and 4, you’ll count the 4 because the 10 is worth 0.

Baccarat is basically a game where one players plays against one banker. The roles of the banker and player change but you should keep in mind that the rules for each part are different. Another important fact which should be mentioned at this point is that the players can still make wagers even though they are not involved directly in neither of those (two) parties.
One round starts when the dealer deals two cards to the player and two to the banker – the first to the player, the second to the banker, and so forth. If both hands have a total of 8 or 9, a natural, no cards will be drawn. The 9 beats the 8. If the total is equal it is a tie. If neither the banker nor the player has a natural, the third and last card will be drawn according to fixed rules.
Basically, the following rule applies: the player must stand on 6 and 7; and hit on 0 to 5.
The bank has to hit when it has a total between 0 and 5 – IF the player stands. The banker must always stand on 6 and 7.The rules of drawing a 3rd card for the banker, if the player has drawn a 3rd card, depends on several aspects. Here are the rules:
If the bank has a card value between 0 and 2 than the player and the banker has to draw a 3rd card. If the card value of the banker is 3 and the player’s third card has a value between 1 and 7, 9 or 10, the banker has to draw another card. If the banker has a card value of 4, and the player’s third card has a value between 2 and 7, the banker has to draw a 3rd card. If the banker has a total of 5 and the player’s third card value is between 1 to 3 or 8 to 10, the banker hits. If the banker has a card value of 6 and the player’s third card has a value of 6 or 7, the banker draws a third card.If you won a bet either on the banker or on the player, the payoff is 1:1. The odds of the bank are slightly better: the bank will win approximately 45.8% of all games whereas the player will win 44.6%. The remaining 9.5% end in a tie. Some Casinos even offer tie-bets – although a tie is rather seldom, the payoffs are great – it pays 1:8. But with a tie-bet, the house edge is 14%, which makes it the worst bet of the game.
