Playing Blackjack is easy. Really, it does not take too much effort to learn the basic set of rules. Being really successful at it, however, takes a lot of time and practice. • Know the rules! This sounds easy, but Blackjack is not simply a game that wants you to reach the number 21 and that’s all there is to it. Knowing all the different kinds of bets and when to perform which kind of action is important to be able to focus on the game itself, not on the rules.

• Be familiar with simple statistics. If you are holding two really low cards in your hands, a pretty high card must be next, right? Wrong. This is an easy mistake that beginners make all the time. Your cards to not affect the remaining cards in the deck at all – well, except for the fact that you will not get those again in this round.

• A few simple guidelines should never be ignored, as they increase your chance of winning. They do not guarantee it, but they should lead to a few more victories as time goes by. If your cards show a combined value of less than 10 (or equal), always request another card and do not hesitate to increase your wager. It is impossible to lose at this point, so why not bid a little bit more?

• Do not play if you do not feel at home. This means that you should leave the table if you feel like the other players are distracting you or the surroundings do not quite match up with what you would call a pleasant environment. Blackjack is a game that, like most card playing games, needs your attention. If you feel distracted while playing, you might just as well give up; going on would be like throwing your money out of the nearest window.

• Do not play drunk. Yes, this sounds self-explanatory, but the bad habit of “Oh, I guess I can have one tiny drink” always leads to another drink and another… and eventually to losing the game. Especially in a place like a real casino, this can be a huge mistake.

And do not forget: The easiest way to learn the game is by playing it online for free. You will learn a lot more by watching other players for starters than by joining a high stakes table at a real casino – and you will keep your money.
