  • EGBA Responsible Gaming Day Attracts eCOGRA

October 19th was the day which attracted the great and good of European gaming associations to Brussels, Belgium, to discuss the future of gaming in Europe and just as importantly the development of online gaming. This is an industry which is already worth billions of euros in Europe alone and their are many interested parties looking for a stake and a say in how it progresses.

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) is the organiser of the event and those expected included officials from regulatory bodies, player representatives and industry lobbyists. The European Union vote on it's draft report on online gaming will be ready in November and what happens in Brussels will have some influence on the proceedings.

Player protection has featured highly at this year's event, not least because of the Black Friday debacle and the subsequent events involving Full Tilt Poker. A notable addition to this year's line up is Andrew Beverage, Chief Executive of eCOGRA (e-Commerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance). As a non-profit organisation, eCOGRA has established itself as the leading advocate of player rights when it comes to fair treatment by online casinos and many online venues carry the eCogra logo to reassure players that they conform to certain criteria. eCOGRA also maintains a respected dispute resolution service.

The over-arching theme of this conference has been the need for player protection via the application of consistent standards throughout the European Union and several participants reiterated that part of this should include independent auditing of all private and public operators. In Europe at least, online poker players can be sure they are being dealt a fair hand.
