  • Full Tilt License Hearing Set For July

The future may be brightening up a little for Full Tilt Poker and their parent company Pocket Kings Ltd. Following a successful takeover by a group of as yet unnamed European investors, the Alderney Gambling Control Commission has agreed to a hearing to discuss license issues. The hearing will take place at the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel in London on July 26th.

One would imagine this will be an opportunity for the new owners to press their case for the renewal of the license although it's difficult to imagine they would have bought a controlling interest if they hadn't already been given some guarantees regarding the suspension. The license was originally suspended following the United States federal investigations into alleged illegal activity by Full Tilt and several other online poker rooms.

WSOP - Hellmuth Oversleeps, Struggle With Small Chip Stack

We don't want to keep the espousing the virtues or otherwise of Phil "poker brat" Hellmuth, but the latest little incident is worth a few words. The preliminary rounds of the WSOP Main Event are split into alternating sessions before all the remaining players come together for the final stages. So we have session named 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b etc.

Hellmuth seems to have been slightly confused as to which session he was playing in. After an hour or so of non-appearance at his designated table, his already paltry chip stack was being further depleted every time the blinds came round. His day was rescued by fellow pro Mike Matusow who called Hellmuth's hotel security to enter his room by force and point him in the right direction. To his credit he regained his composure and built his stack up from 7,500 to almost 65,000 by the end of the day. With the current leaders hovering around the 400,000 chip mark though, Hellmuth is well down in the competition overall.
