SawadeeSoft, a leading player in the development of applications for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch has released what it says is the first fully-featured, real-money poker application for the various Apple platforms.
Conor McCarthy, one of the co-founders of this Irish company says that SawadeeSoft realised that none of the major players in the industry had fully committed to providing Apple users with a comprehensive suite of poker software for all three platforms.
Conor says it has not been possible to develop an application in the usual way for the App Store as Apple do not allow gambling sites through their strict vetting procedure. Usually the normal process is to develop an application which includes an icon to sit on the touchscreen surface of the device. The user can then conveniently start the program. To circumvent this prohibition, SawadeeSoft have engineered a method whereby the user visits a website – www.switchpoker.com – on the devices browser and plays the specially formatted poker game there.
Once at the site users will be able to play six seat, no-limit Texas Holdem in a manner which feels more like an application rather than playing within a web page. Future updates, says Conor, will include new games such as Pot-Limit Omaha, single table sit and go tournaments and multi-table tournaments.
The online poker and online gambling industry has been boosted in recent years firstly by Apple's spectacular success with the iPhone and iPod Touch and more recently with the iPad. Additionally other touchscreen and tablet manufacturers have recently entered the fray and are looking to dent Apple's massive market dominance. Time will tell whether they succeed but some big industry players such as Nokia and Google are pitching in in the quest for market share. Clearly only more and more consumers will own these devices in the future and companies such as SawadeeSoft will be well placed with www.switchpoker.com to ensure they are at the forefront of online gambling development for these platforms.
