The historic game of Blackjack quite correctly comes with its own fair share of rules and regulations regarding 'manners' or 'etiquette' at the table. Rules might be too strong a word - guidelines is perhaps a better term for players of this great game. There are of course differences between what's required of participants in an online game and a real life game. In a real life game it's polite, for example, to check with the dealer that it's OK to sit down before you take your seat. It's also important to leave the chips well alone after bets have been laid - much of the cheating in Blackjack has traditionally revolved around surreptitiously adding high value chips to the stack after receiving strong cards.
For this article though, we're interested in the online version of Blackjack and there are several real life guidelines that we can apply to the online arena. Firstly let's discuss speed; slow play can be extremely frustrating in Blackjack- there's really no reason for it, the choices are simple and largely pre-ordained. Online slow play can be very tiresome, other players can only see your timer running down and have no idea if you've gone to the toilet, got a bad connection or if some other diversion has taken your fancy so don't do it.

Secondly make sure you know the rules; if you don't you will just end up falling foul of the slow play rule. You may also end up losing money if you don't know what you're up to. Blackjack is a simple game so there's no excuse for not knowing how to play.
Lastly, the chat feature can be a minefield. The anonymous nature of internet gaming means the chat box can be used for all sorts of abuse and game-play criticism. Don't be tempted to do this yourself. Criticising other players is absolutely out of the question in a live game and it should be when playing online as well. If the chat box is annoying you, you can always turn it off, rather than rising to other people's insults.
